Antoine Griezmann says Atletico Madrid couldn’t stop Mason Greenwood

Greenwood moved to Spain in the summer following an announcement from the club that he would not restart his career at Old Trafford.

The academy star graduate was arrested on charges of domestic violence in January 2022, although the player denied these claims, and eventually, the case was dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service.

Playing in La Liga, Greenwood has restarted his footballing career with Getafe, who sit in eighth place and are having a positive campaign so far.

They are currently four points away from sixth place and potential European football for next season, and their most recent game ended in a valiant draw against title-chasing Atletico Madrid.

Getafe scored two late goals to secure the point after being 3-1 down, with two goals coming from Atletico’s top scorer and former World Cup winner Antoine Griezmann.

Greenwood played a key role in two of Getafe’s goals on the night and played an impressive overall game that led to praise from Griezmann after full-time.

“Greenwood hurt us a lot,” the Frenchman said, according to the Daily Star. “We couldn’t stop him at the end of the game, and two goals came.”

The 21-year-old forward has scored three goals so far this season and registered four assists. Greenwood’s manager, José Bordalás, has also praised his adaption into the La Liga outfit.
