Wednesday’s match saw two former Leipzig players – Konate and Szoboszlai – return to their previous club.
Szoboszlai scored 20 goals in 91 games for Leipzig before joining Liverpool in 2023, while Konate made 95 appearances for the Bundesliga club – scoring four times – prior to his move to Anfield in 2021.
After the defeat to Liverpool, Leipzig paid tribute to Szoboszlai with a post on social media.
Posting a picture of the midfielder alongside club chairman Oliver Mintzlaff and president Johann Plenge, the club’s official Instagram account wrote: “Great to see you back in Leipzig, Szobo! Wishing you all the best for your future.”
The Hungary international was also presented with a red bull trophy on his return to the club.
Szoboszlai responded on Instagram with a love-heart emoji but Konate was less pleased.
He replied to the same picture with the caption: “…”, seemingly unhappy at being snubbed.

Leipzig later responded to Konate’s post: “You are still one of us.”
Liverpool fans were quick to react to the exchange, with one replying: “Justice for Ibou!”
While another added: “Get them, king! and you should explain yourself @rbleipzig”
Liverpool next face title rivals Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday, with Konate and Szoboszlai both expected to feature in the match.
Ibrahima Konate has reacted after his former club RB Leipzig paid tribute to Dominik Szoboszlai but not him following their Champions League clash with Liverpool.
