Mason Greenwood set to return to Man United after crunch talks with Getafe

Man United will refuse Getafe’s attempts to keep Mason Greenwood on loan for a second season as the club looks to cash in on the academy star. The La Liga club have held talks over retaining Greenwood’s services this summer, but United are set to take him back before a permanent sale.

Getafe signed the 22-year-old forward on a season-long loan on deadline day last summer after it was decided that his career was best served away from Old Trafford.

He is reportedly enjoying life away from the spotlight in Spain, having moved with his partner, Harriet, and became a father last July.

Greenwood has made 24 La Liga appearances for Getafe, registering six goals and five assists and creating 23 chances.

The former United No. 11’s performances have reportedly attracted heavyweight interest in his signature, including from Atletico Madrid and Barcelona.

Getafe are also said to be keen to extend Greenwood’s loan until the end of next season and have held discussions with United over the possibility.

However, The Sun report that the Red Devils aren’t interested in sanctioning another loan and that if the club decides to sell Greenwood, the focus will be on a permanent transfer.

Whether he is sold isn’t yet set in stone. United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe hasn’t shut the door on a potential return, confirming that a “fresh” decision would be made in due course.

“It’s quite clear we have to make a decision. There is no decision that’s been made. He’s on loan, obviously, but he’s not the only one,” Ratcliffe explained in February.

“We’ve got one or two footballers that we have to deal with and we have to make a decision on, so we will do that.

“The process will be: understand the facts, not the hype, and then try and come to a fair decision on the basis of values.
